#Unix disappeared sheepshaver installThe game installer will want to install files in the System Folder. The 'Unix" drive is for exchanging files only, not for installations or running applications. The instruction to lock the image file is for a system install CD image. Did you use a OS9 image with pre-installed system like the one that can be downloaded from Redundant Robot? That image file should not be locked. Your "hard drive" with the System Folder on it should not be locked. I'm not able to install a system folder to my new virtual disc (the virtual installer hangs), and if I remove the "hard drive" and initialise it - I suppose it will be locked?Īny suggestions? The SheepShaver version is 0201 (2.4) So I created a new virtual hard drive, and hoped that the problem was solved.īut now I'm told that I can't install Civilization II on that drive, because it does not have a system folder. I checked my old installation, and I had a virtual extra hard drive with it on. I'm not allowed to install it on the Unix disc, because it's a "network disc". I can't install it on the "hard drive/system disc", as it is locked. By trial and error I managed to install SheepShaver by using the old install first, before seeing that info in the instruction manual here, but now I'm stuck.Ĭivilization II needs to be installed, before it can be used. #Unix disappeared sheepshaver mac osSo - now I checked if maybe SheepShaver had been updated, and could be installed on my MacMini Mac OS 10.12. Haven't had time to look into that as of yet. I tried to install my old SheepShaver build on my PowerBook with Mac OS 10.10, and the game loads, but quits all the time. In my old build, on Mac OS 6.8, the CD will not be recognised, but I copied the CD to the hard drive and was able to play without the movies/multimedia additions. READ and follow these instructions and you should be ok.Hi, I use SheepShaver to always be able to play Civilization II. If you want to try it too, download SheepShaver and download a ROM file and the OS9 System. I gave it a try and it works fantastic! And it runs my FM6 applications - and some old games, of course, like BreakThru! Really cool! #Unix disappeared sheepshaver for mac osBut today I came across it again while searching for Mac OS emulators for Moutain Lion, and saw '2012' in the SheepShaver's blog, so that means it is still actively supported. I tried SheepShaver a long time ago, but then it did not work for me, somehow. So I still want to be able to run FM6 on my iMac, in Mac OS 10.8, because it is simply more convenient. But it is a bit much work turing that Mac on and off, just to do some administrative work in FileMaker 6. Then I got a 500MHz G4 Cube! The advantage was that it runs all my older software too, like the Starwars Episode 1 Racer. So I looked at installing it on Windows in Parallels, since I have that software anyway - but that is a bit too much overhead just for running FileMaker 6. And I do not want to upgrade - too expensive for the infrequent usage. A piece of software I need, for a regional tree foundation I do some work for, but rarely use. If you do not want to spend much money on upgrades for software you hardly use, just because you are running the latest Mac OS, try a Mac OS emulator! These are free and run nice and fast on the new Macs.
